Crapser tearing up Midwest Modified scene
By Brandon Berg
gbrandon.berg@lee.net
On many nights, you can find Cory Crapser racing somewhere.
One night he may be racing at Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls. Other times he can be found at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie or at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.
But once you find where he is racing, he’ll be easy to point out. He’s usually at the front of the pack.
The 26-year old Crapser, a resident of Chippewa Falls, has already accomplished much in his racing career and appears to have no intentions of slowing down.
Crapser, a two-time WISSOTA Street Stock National Champion, is currently first in season points in the midwest modified division at both Red Cedar and Deer Creek. He is fourth in points at Eagle Valley Speedway despite not running the full schedule.
But most impressively of all, Crapser sits atop the standings for the WISSOTA National Midwest Modified points standings, 16 points ahead of Daniel Ebert of Lake Shore, Minn. entering this weekend.
If he wins the Midwest Modified points title, Crapser would be the first racer in WISSOTA history to win both the Midwest Modified and Street Stock national points championship. He would also join a slim list of drivers to win WISSOTA titles in at least two different divisions.
WISSOTA currently has six divisions of racing Street Stock, Midwest Modified, Late Model, Modified, Super Stock and Mod Four.
Getting involved
Crapser caught the racing bug at a young age. His father owned a modified car for several years and his grandfather took Cory and his brother to races often when they were younger,”
“Two nights a week, every week, all summer (for) as long as I can remember,” Crapser said.
Cory began by racing go karts at Thunder Hill Speedway in Menomonie, a 1/8 mile track. Crapser said that many of the drivers he races against at Eagle Valley Speedway also cut their teeth at Thunder Hill early on in their careers as well.
“About half the guys there (at Eagle Valley Speedway) used to race go karts at some time,” Crapser said.
From 2002-2007 and again in 2009, Crapser competed in the Street Stock division, the division where he took home his two WISSOTA National Championships in 2007 and 2009. In those two combined championship seasons, Crapser won 81 feature races in 154 starts to go with a combined 126 top-5 and 137 top-10 finishes.
Crapser and his brother have put in countless hours of work on his car in addition to working their regular 40-to-50 hour work weeks. But all that time spent making their car better has been worth it.
“A good car will really make a guy look good,” Crapser said. “But a good driver has a hard time overcoming a car that isn’t that (good).”
Here, there and everywhere
Crapser has raced at ten different race tracks this year, with 29 of his first 39 starts this year coming at Eagle Valley, Red Cedar and Deer Creek. The two local tracks are understandable, but what would compel Crapser to made a nearly weekly drive of two-and-a-half hours to Spring Valley, Minn.?
“In the United States it’s pretty much the top modified track,” Crapser said of Deer Creek.
Crapser has raced in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota and South Dakota, among other states. But racing in Minnesota still holds a special place for Crapser and his family he met his wife while racing there.
Once the racing season is done, Crapser shifts gears from racing to football. He has season tickets for the Green Bay Packers and enjoys getting the chance to watch them play, be it in person or on television.
“That’s basically all we do,” Crapser said. “Watch football and go racing.”
Crapser said he expects to run around 80 events this year, so by the time racing season is ending, he’s ready for some football.
Sitting at the top of the standings in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified Series points, Crapser knows he has a bullseye on him.
“In the Midwest Mod (division), you have a whole different class of competition,” Crapser said.
Crapser said his wife Anna and family have been incredibly supportive both of his racing dream and in his quest for a Midwest Modified title in 2012.
He’s raced with a championship bullseye on his back before and has taken home two championship trophies.
In his quest for a Midwest Modified title, Cory Crapser will settle for nothing less than to bring a third trophy back to Chippewa Falls.

Auto racing: Crapser chasing track, national titles
By Jason Feldman
The Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN
Cory Crapser has his sights set high in 2012.
That's no different than any other year, really, for the former two-time Wissota national Street Stocks champion.
Whether it's track championships, regional championships or national championships, Crapser would love nothing more than to fill his home in Chippewa Falls, Wis., with trophies this season. This time, though, he's hoping to make some waves in the Wissota Midwest Modifieds division.
Crapser finished fifth in national points a year ago, his first full season in a Midwest Mod. He also finished as the runner-up at the three Wisconsin tracks where he raced for points.
For most drivers, that would be a season to celebrate. Crapser was certainly pleased with his results in 2011, but he hopes to find even more success in 2012.
"We won 17 features last year, which is never a bad year," Crapser said, "but this year we want to take the next step and continue to progress. When we ran the Street Stock, we always got better each year, never regressed. We just hope to have a really good year this year."
Crapser got off to a great start last weekend, winning the season-opening Midwest Modifieds feature at Deer Creek Speedway. He topped a very good 19-car field, which included perennial national title contender Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn.
"That was a very nice way to start," the 26-year-old Crapser said. "Sometimes it takes some time to get that first win of the season. But it seems like, once you get one, they come a little easier."
Sabraski had gotten the best of Crapser and the rest of the field the previous night, using a slide job to pass a handful of cars late in the feature at Chateau Raceway in Lansing.
"We figured if we're fast enough to race with him, we're doing all right," Crapser said.
Crapser will be back at Deer Creek on a full-time basis this summer. He won the Street Stocks points title at the track near Spring Valley in 2009, the year he won his second national championship (he also won in 2007). He also plans to chase track and national points at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wis., on Fridays this summer, and at Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, Wis., on Sundays.
He finished second at Red Cedar and Eagle Valley last season, as well as at Rice Lake (Wis.) Speedway. This summer, he's swapping his pursuit of a track title at Rice Lake to come back to Deer Creek.
"It's just so much fun to come to Deer Creek," Crapser said. "It's some of the best racing you'll see and it's probably the nicest track in Wissota. It's not that bad of a drive for us and we like the atmosphere. It's fun to go race against a full field of cars every week."
Crapser has built up a strong racing resume at a young age. He comes from a family of racing fans his dad owned and worked on an A-Mod for many years when Cory was young; his brother is on his pit crew; and he met his wife, Anna, when he was racing against her brother.
Crapser has raced in a number of Wissota divisions, including Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and A-Modifieds. He has 137 career feature victories, four track championships and feature wins at 25 different tracks.
He's back in a Midwest Mod this season because the cost is more affordable than running an A-Mod, and it allows him to race more often. In addition to the three tracks where he'll run for points titles, Crapser will also compete a number of times this summer at KRA Speedway in Willmar and Central Wisconsin Raceway in Unity, Wis.
"We started in a Street Stock and ran 90 shows one year," Crapser said. "It was tiring, but it was the most fun we've had racing."

Crapser claims second WISSOTA Street Stock National Championship
By Kirk Holmes
All The Dirt! Racing News
CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI - Cory Crapser made an offer someone couldn’t refuse prior to the 2009 race season, and it didn’t put any of their body parts at risk.
Crapser offered to put his butt in the seat of a Kurshinsky chassis WISSOTA Street Stock - something he was well acquainted with - and do his best to win a national championship. Sixty-four nights of racing later, mission accomplished.
The title was the second in three years for Crapser, who moved on to racing a WISSOTA Modified in 2008. That’s when he met Thad Jensen, his wife Tammie and their son, Christian. Thad, of Blaine, MN, bought the car prior to the 2008 season and raced it less than 10 nights, due in large part to the portion of his time that pays the bills.
“Thad and I became friends during the 2008 season racing out and around the Alexandria (MN) area,” Crapser said. “He talked to me about selling his car because he had little time because of his growing business (First Impressions Lawn Sprinklers) and starting of his new business (Mosquito Doctor).

Crapser Racing sends out special thanks and gratitude to '09 sponsors & supporters
EAU CLAIRE, WI - Cory Crapser and his First Impressions Lawn Sprinklers race team recently locked up the 2009 WISSOTA Street Stock National Championship. The First Impressions & Mosquito Doctor team competed in 63 WISSOTA-sanctioned events in 2009, capturing 36 feature wins and 52 top five finishes. In addition to the National Championship the 07 race team collected the WISSOTA Street Stock division’s Central and Eastern Regional championships, Minnesota State Championship, and track championships at Deer Creek Speedway and Eagle Valley Speedway. Cory also won features at three of WISSOTA’s highest paying Street Stock events in appearances at ABC Raceway, North Central Speedway and Princeton Speedway.
Crapser Racing’s dream wouldn’t have been possible without three of the best car owners a race team could ask for, Thad, Tammie & Christian Jensen. The Jensen’s provided Cory and his race team with an incredible opportunity to drive their Street Stock in 2009 with one goal in mind: National Championship. Six months and 36 wins later, the goal became a reality by adding the second National Championship to the race team’s resume.
Crapser would like to thank his crew, the great sponsors and fans for helping make the 2009 race season a success. Sponsors for the #07 race team in 2009 were: First Impressions Lawn Sprinklers, Mosquito Doctor, Troy’s Shop Racing Engines, Buzz Signs & Graphics, Shaw Trucking, GRP Motorsports, Kevin Knutson Fabrication, Elite Shock Service, Car Quest Auto Parts, Ron’s BP, Dave Running Construction, Baxter’s Speed Shop, Mom’s Kitchen, Fastlane Motorsports, Parco Windows, Vincent Tool, Task Masters Landscaping, Spears Landscaping, and RealTruck.com.

Crapser works overtime to guarantee Street Stock championship
By Ed Reichert
All The Dirt! Racing News
EAU CLAIRE, WI - Cory Crapser entered the 2007 racing season consumed by one overriding thought: win the WISSOTA Street Stock national title.
With a determination bordering on obsession, Crapser attacked WISSOTA race tracks from west to east in the relentless pursuit of feature wins and the accompanying points that would be added to his ledger. When he finally came up for air in October, he discovered his goal had been accomplished - he was the 2007 national champion.
The conclusion of the 2006 racing season left a very bitter taste in Crapser’s mouth and the only breath mint that would clear the air satisfactorily would be to stand at the head of the Street Stock class in 2007. Despite 20 feature wins in 2006, he found himself two points short of a national title when the final event of the year was time shortened, which prevented him from making a pass for one more position that would have given him the national title.
